Bernard J Bourque, PhD, is Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of New England (Australia). He is the author of eight scholarly books: Isaac de Benserade. Théâtre complet (2024), Guillaume Colletet. Cyminde ou les deux victimes (2022), Jean Magnon. Théâtre complet (2020), Jean Chapelain et la querelle de La Pucelle (2019), All the Abbé’s Women: Power and Misogyny in Seventeenth-Century France, through the Writings of Abbé d’Aubignac (2015), Jean Donneau de Visé et la querelle de Sophonisbe (2014), Abbé d’Aubignac. Pièces en prose (2012) and French Seventeenth-Century Literature: Influences and Transformations (2009). Dr Bourque's other scholarly publications include peer-reviewed journal articles and book reviews. He recently coordinated a thematic issue of the international journal Œuvres & Critiques (Volume XLVIII, Issue 1, June 2023) on the topic of prolific writers of seventeenth-century France.

 

Dr Bourque's fictional works include the novels in the Mr. Louis trilogy—Mr. Louis (2017), The Shock Reader (2018), and Upper-Case G (2018)—and his novels in the Lupine trilogy—To Pick a Lupine (2020), A Tale of Three Lupines (2022), and Corfu Seductions (2023). Each of the six novels takes place primarily on Campobello Island (New Brunswick, Canada). His historical play Friend of the King deals with the Acadian deportation and the story of the Loyalists.

He has acted in a number of theatrical productions and appeared as a background actor in the feature film To Keep the Light (2016; filmmaker Erica Fae), in the television series Frontier (2016; Netflix and Discovery), and in the television series Mont-Rouge (2024: Ici Télé - Radio-Canada). He is co-founder of La Troupe Sans Frontières/Theatre Without Borders, a community theatre company based on Campobello Island.

In 2021, he was chair of the New Brunswick Public Libraries Board and served on that board for three years. In addition, he was a trustee of the New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation Board. He was also chair of the Campobello Public Library Board from January 2020 to January 2023.

Bernard J Bourque lived on Campobello Island (New Brunswick, Canada) for 13 years. He now lives in Riverview (New Brunswick, Canada) with his wife, Sandra.
